Why it works
Wrote this riff in high school and it's lived on my computer for nearly two decades. It's really fun to play and it sticks in my head, so I decided it was worthy of some extra attention and the song deserved to be completed (still a work-in-progress, of course).
Like everything from that era, it's in natural minor and leans on 3rd harmonies to give it that cheerful/melancholy feel.
