Guitar Pro to MIDI, in your browser
Drop a .gp, .gpx, .gp5, .gp4 or .gp3 file, pick the tracks, download a .mid for your DAW and drum plug-ins. Tempo map, time signatures and markers kept; drums on channel 10. No account needed, nothing uploaded.
How it works
- Drop your Guitar Pro file on the box above, or choose it from your computer.
- Check it: press Play, switch tracks, hear it with real guitar tones and drums.
- Tick the tracks you want and press Download .mid. The file builds on your device; nothing is uploaded.
What goes in the file: 960 ticks per quarter note, a tempo event for every tempo change, a time-signature event per change, the key signature, a marker per section, track names, General MIDI program changes so a plain player sounds right, the pitch-bend range set to 12 semitones, and bends, slides and vibrato as pitch-bend curves. Ties are merged into one note; palm mutes are shorter and softer; dead notes are short clicks.
Questions
- Do the drums land on channel 10?
- Yes. Drum tracks go on MIDI channel 10 with General MIDI note numbers (kick 36, snare 38, hats 42/44/46, toms, crashes 49/57, ride 51, china 52), which is what Superior Drummer 3, GetGood Drums and EZdrummer expect by default.
- Are tempo changes and time signatures kept?
- Yes. Every tempo change and every time-signature change is written where it happens, repeats are written out in full, and the song's sections become markers so your DAW shows them.
- Does it work with Superior Drummer 3 and GetGood Drums?
- Yes. Drag the drum track from the .mid onto the plug-in's track in your DAW. The notes use the General MIDI map both plug-ins load by default; accents and ghost notes come through as velocity.
- Is my file uploaded or stored?
- No. The Guitar Pro file is read on your device and the MIDI file is built there too. Nothing is sent to Riffipedia unless you choose to save the tab to RiffWright.
- Which Guitar Pro versions does it convert?
- Guitar Pro 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8: .gp3, .gp4, .gp5, .gpx and .gp files. The export is a standard Type 1 MIDI file at 960 ticks per quarter note that opens in Reaper, Logic, Ableton Live, Cubase and Guitar Pro.
