RiffWright™

Online guitar tab editor with real tones

RiffWright is the tab editor built into Riffipedia. Write a riff, hear it played back with recorded guitar and drums, and share it. No download — it runs in your browser.

The RiffWright editor: an 8-string riff in Drop E on the tab grid, with its tracks, playback controls and song map

Hear it the way it sounds

Playback uses recorded clean and distorted guitar tones and a real drum kit. Slow it down, loop a bar, turn on the click.

Built for extended range

6-, 7-, 8- and 9-string guitar and 4- to 6-string bass, in standard and drop tunings — Drop A on a seven, Drop E on an eight.

Fast to write

Type frets straight onto the grid: palm mutes, dead notes, hammer-ons, bends, slides, tapping, harmonics, triplets and odd time signatures.

Guitar Pro and MIDI out

Open .gp, .gpx, .gp5, .gp4 and .gp3 files; export .gp to keep working in Guitar Pro, or a multitrack .mid for your DAW and drum plug-ins — drums on channel 10, tempo and markers included.

Write together

Share a tab by link or invite bandmates to view, comment or edit. Comments sit on the bar they're about, and every version is kept.

On your phone

Record an idea with a click track, sketch frets with your thumbs, and play any tab sideways. Add it to your home screen and it opens like an app.

From tab to riff

When it's ready, post it to Riffipedia with a video of you playing it.

Questions

Can I write guitar tabs online without installing anything?
Yes. RiffWright runs in your browser on a computer or a phone — no download.
Is RiffWright a Guitar Pro alternative?
For writing riffs and short songs, yes: it opens .gp, .gpx, .gp5, .gp4 and .gp3 files, plays them back with recorded guitar tones, and exports .gp so you can keep working in Guitar Pro — or MIDI for your DAW.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. You can play tabs, record ideas and sketch frets on a phone; the full editor is on a computer.
Which instruments does it handle?
Guitar from 6 to 9 strings, bass from 4 to 6, and drums — up to four tracks per tab.
Do I need an account?
To save tabs, yes: a Riffipedia account, signed in with an email link, no password. To open a Guitar Pro file and play it, no account is needed.
