Halt - Color Revolution - Thump Breakdown

Here, I use Tosin's thumping technique in a simple breakdown. Does it work, or would I be better off playing open notes? It's a simple pattern but requires extra focus as the open low-E is played with an upstroke on your thumb, but it feels like it should be a downstroke.
