Why this riff works
I came up with this riff while struggling to play Neon by John Mayer (which i still can't). Here, I produce muted notes with both my left hand and my right as it comes down to pluck the next note. On the quick "blues note" slide, I "flick" the D string to initiate the run since I've just plucked "up" on the G string.
Then I slide the G major shape around. Right hand does most the work.
